Foil vs. Metal Dryer Ducts: Which Is Safer?
Why flimsy foil and plastic hoses trap lint, and why metal duct is the safer choice.
Short answer
Metal dryer duct is safer than foil or plastic. Foil and plastic hoses crush easily, sag and have ridges that trap lint, while rigid or semi-rigid metal duct holds its shape and has a smoother inside that lets lint pass through.

What is behind your dryer
A short transition hose connects the dryer to the vent in the wall. In many homes it is a foil or plastic accordion hose that gets crushed when the dryer is pushed back.
Why metal is better
Rigid metal duct has the smoothest inside and resists crushing. Semi-rigid metal is a good choice for the short transition behind the dryer. Both handle heat far better than plastic.
A quick check you can do
Pull the dryer out and look at the hose. If it is foil or plastic, crushed, or held on with loose tape, replace it. We can replace it and clean the full line in one visit.
